The West genesee CSD has an immediate opening for a 3 hours/day Food Service Worker I.

The work involves assisting in the preparation and serving of food, cleaning kitchen equipment and other light manual tasks incidental to the preparation of food in a school cafeteria. This is routine work, performed under direct supervision, consisting of food preparation and service such as preparing foods for cooking, placing food on trays and serving in dining area. Depending on the area of assignment, an employee in this class may participate in cooking food. However, cooking food should not be a regular or recurring function of an employee in this position. Assignments from supervisors are continuous and specific in nature and finished work is reviewed by inspection and observation of results obtained. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Cleans kitchens and dining rooms
  • performs a variety of cleaning and custodial work including washing dishes
  • Places juice, bread, butter and cereals on trays and carts
  • Stocks storeroom with supplies
  • Helps prepare salads, desserts, vegetables, soups and other hot foods
  • Prepares sandwich fillings and sandwiches
  • Sets up and refills food counter
  • Puts leftover food away
  • May reheat prepared food as needed to appropriate temperature
  • Opens canned foods and prepares them for serving
  • Takes food carts from kitchen to serving area
  • May inventory food and supplies
  • Operates cash register in cafeteria and maintains record of transactions

The West Genesee CSD has an opening for 4 hours/day Food Service Worker I effective September 1, 2026.

The work involves assisting in the preparation and serving of food, cleaning kitchen equipment and other light manual tasks incidental to the preparation of food in a school cafeteria. This is routine work, performed under direct supervision, consisting of food preparation and service such as preparing foods for cooking, placing food on trays and serving in dining area. Depending on the area of assignment, an employee in this class may participate in cooking food. However, cooking food should not be a regular or recurring function of an employee in this position. Assignments from supervisors are continuous and specific in nature and finished work is reviewed by inspection and observation of results obtained. Does related work as required.

Food Service Worker II, Part-time33

FOOD SERVICE HELPER II ~ Part-time, 3.5 hours per day/ 10 month position

The work involves supervising and assisting in the preparation and serving of food. In a school cafeteria, an employee in this class may have responsibility for immediate supervision of a number of food service staff and/or have responsibility for preparing foods such as salads, sandwiches, and desserts, loading food carts as well as the maintaining of records and receipts. Food Service Helpers in the Lead Position will receive $2.00 added to their hourly rate for their role as a lead. The Food Service Helper in the Lead role will be expected to prep and cook food when necessary. This class differs from that of Food Service Helper I in that an employee in this position exercises more independent judgment in performing their work activities, and they prepare foods per instructions in the required amount. A Food Service Helper II in a school cafeteria may be responsible for supervision of subordinate staff. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Operates the cash register, prepares bank deposits; keeps time reports for payroll purposes;
  • Inspects kitchen and dining areas for cleanliness and proper functioning; supervises and assists in daily cleaning of these areas;
  • Keeps inventory of food supplies and equipment; orders supplies as needed;
  • Assigns routine tasks and implements new procedures;
  • Prepares salads, sandwiches and desserts;
  • Puts leftover food away;
  • May heat prepared food;
  • May perform simple, unskilled clerical duties

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of sanitation and personal hygiene as applied to food preparation and service.
  • Good knowledge of the use and care of kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of large-scale food service.
  • Working knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, prepare bank deposits and make simple financial reports.
  • Ability to supervise a number of subordinate workers in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale when assigned.
  • Cleanliness.
$20.60 per hour
