Part-Time School Crossing Guard
Pay: $17.70 per hour
Hours: This is a part-time, 10-month position following the school calendar. Work is typically split into two shifts per day:
- Morning Shift: 1-2 hours
- Afternoon Shift: 1-2 hours
- Exact hours and times may vary depending on the school's schedule.
Distinguishing Features of the Class: The work involves a high degree of responsibility and vigilance in directing traffic and ensuring the safety of students. A School Crossing Guard works at an assigned post and performs duties independently with occasional direction from a supervisor.
Typical Work Activities:
- Directs traffic on school grounds as designated at student arrival and dismissal times.
- Acts quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Performs duties in all weather conditions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to be firm and authoritative yet courteous with the public and children.
- Excellent observation skills and mental alertness.
- Dependability and punctuality are essential.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position, including the ability to stand for extended periods.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a thorough background check, including a fingerprint check.
