This is a NY HELPS civil service title and candidates must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Onondaga County Department of Personnel (Civil Service) for the title of School Information Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees and two (2) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in journalism, communications, public relations or a closely related field which must have included the use of electronic communication systems such as electronic notification systems, bulletin boards, social media, or web applications; or,
B. Six (6) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent in journalism, communications, public relations or a closely related field which must have included the use of electronic communication systems such as electronic notification systems, bulletin boards, social media, or web applications.
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate knowledge of:
- public relations principles, techniques, terminology and communication with media including website design/modification, social media, electronic notification systems and network software
- the creation of web-based applications using Microsoft tools and technologies
installing, configuring, maintaining, tuning, analyzing, and optimizing websites
- state-of-the-art web development tools and HTML
- use and operation of computers and related peripheral equipment
- web site and page design, including writing, editing, layout and internet programming
Ability to:
- continuously monitor industry trends, technologies, and standards and be able to research, recommend, and apply new technologies to websites as they emerge
- work well within tight deadlines
- communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
New York State Education Department Clearance: Appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting clearance from the NYS Education Department as required by the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation.
