Assistant School Transportation Director
West Genesee Central School District is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional for the position of Assistant School Transportation Director.
Location: West Genesee CSD, Camillus, NY
Employment Type: Full-time, Twelve-month Appointment
Effective Date: On or about December 1, 2025
Salary Range: $75,000 - $84,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Please Note: Appointment is subject to the candidate passing the required Civil Service examination and being reachable on the resulting eligible list, or receiving a provisional appointment subject to taking and passing the next scheduled exam for the title.
The Assistant School Transportation Director assists in the planning, organization, direction, and supervision of the District's school transportation program. Responsibilities include supervising personnel, assisting with vehicle maintenance and procurement, managing routing and scheduling, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations for safe and efficient student transportation.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists the Director in all phases of the transportation program's operation, including budget preparation and administration.
- Supervises, schedules, and evaluates transportation personnel (e.g., bus drivers, mechanics, and dispatchers).
- Assists in developing and managing student transportation routes and schedules for maximum efficiency and safety.
- Ensures compliance with all New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) regulations and safety standards.
- Oversees the proper maintenance, repair, and inspection schedule for the District's fleet.
- Responds to and resolves complex transportation-related issues, complaints, and emergencies.
- Assists with the selection, training, and ongoing professional development of transportation staff.
Good knowledge of standard transportation methods and programs as related to pupil transportation including:
- New York State Motor Vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
- New York State Education Department regulations on transportation.
- Standard vehicle safety practices.
- District transportation policies.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Onondaga County Civil Service for the title of Assistant School Transportation:
Four (4) years of experience, or its part time equivalent in school transportation or a related field such as commercial bus or trade transportation, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity including responsibility for routing and scheduling of vehicles, personnel, and the care and maintenance of vehicles.
Special Necessary Requirement
- When required to operate a motor vehicle, possession of a valid New York State Non-CDL or CDL, including any special endorsements, is required for the type of vehicle being operated.
